Population Projection for Nepal (2021-2051)

We are excited to announce that the National Statistical Office of Nepal has published a comprehensive report on the population projection of Nepal down to the ward level. This project, commissioned by the NSO and supported by UNFPA-Nepal, has been our primary focus since the beginning of 2024.

Our dedicated team, including Sambriddhi Malla, Jibesh Acharya, and later Dvya Shakya, has spent over a year delving into the factors driving demographic changes in Nepal. We analysed extensive data, developed a complex model covering five levels of administrative hierarchy, and discussed the future trajectories of births, deaths, and migration. After numerous iterations of testing and refinement, we proudly present this concise report detailing Nepal’s demographics by age and sex.

Our vision at Psr Hub is to see Nepal as a country of “well-informed societies,” this demographic model will serve as the foundation for our future initiatives. While excited about our progress, we recognise that much work remains. Our primary challenge is producing unbiased, transparent, and timely quality data, followed by state-of-the-art analyses.

Our journey has just begun, and we welcome your suggestions and collaborations in research, practical applications, and capacity building. Let’s work together to create a brighter future for Nepal! Please write us at thehub.khojnepal@gmail.com
