Course: Multidimensional Demography I
by PSRHUB
The Multidimensional Population Projection Workshop Using Excel and R was successfully conducted by Population and Statistics Research Hub (PSRHUB) from 28 March to 19 April 2025. The workshop was scheduled for eight sessions (Saturday and Sunday) utilizing a hybrid training delivery model. It aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills in multidimensional demographic modelling through the use of Excel and R software.
Objectives
The workshop was organized with the following objectives:
- To provide participants with an understanding of multidimensional population projection methodologies incorporating age, sex, and educational attainment.
- To introduce multidimensional demographic projection techniques applicable at both national and sub-national levels in Nepal.
- To provide hands-on training in developing multidimensional population projection models using Excel and R.
- To demonstrate the application of multidimensional population projection models for projecting populations by age, sex, and educational attainment.
Course Highlights
The workshop was attended by academicians, researchers, government professionals, and MPhil and PhD students working in population studies and related disciplines. The eight-session workshop included lectures, practical exercises, discussions, and assignments. Individual multidimensional population projection models were developed for selected districts and provinces of Nepal using Excel and R.
